NIITVäLJA GOLF
Niitvälja golf course was completed in its full measures in 1994. The oldest 18-hole course in the Baltic, it is quite a challenge to strong club-players, but at the same time it is also not too complicated for the beginners. If, of course, plays smartly. Half of the course is located between the forests. As tracks are narrow enough, the ball flown into the tight trees, mostly means an additional hit.
Holes number 1 and 2, 9 to 13, 17 and 18 are in the open ground, where is plenty of space for open hits. In doing so, it is however necessary to take into consideration that the ball lost from the fairway flys to inconveniently tight rough or fairway bunker.
There is enough water in Niitvälja, which does not directly disturb (par-3 tracks 2 and 6), but makes players with weak nerves feel uncomfortable.
However, in some cases (tracks 3, 4, 16) the pond halts the ball hit too far to the right or to the left. On three tracks (7, 13 and 17) the streams are criss-cross.
In addition to the forest and water there is the wind disturbing the players. Sometimes the wind in Niitvälja is very strong and blows in such a way, which gives even the strongest players a headache.
If there is something in Niitvälja, which can be considered easy, it is the greens, but this assumption keeps only at first sight. Most greens look even and there are no signs of difficult landscape. But during the putting, the homogeneous and unnoticeable inclination of the greens becomes evident. Even with one-meter putts it is crucial to consider the green attentively, because otherwise there might occur unpleasant surprises.
It can be said that the golf course at Niitvälja is well in balance. There are 2 long and 2 shorter par-3s. Some par-4 tracks are pretty complicated. From among the par-5 holes, only the last one offers possibility to get to the green in two just by a long hit. Others require mastering fade, draw and a straight hand.
