The fact
that Pulkvedis has withstood the test of time speaks for itself. With
its split personality of sombre industrial upstairs and psychodelia downstairs,
this is where young folks go to live it up and try to out-hip one other.
Service at the main bar can be slow and selective, and tipping generously
doesn’t help. The music varies but is most always alternative, sometimes
off the wall. Location: Old Town.
Hot Rio
Although the guard claimed that this club is the place to be, we beg to
differ. The pitch-black cave-like interior is illuminated by the spinning
reflections of a disco ball, which is almost as lonely as the unfortunate
person who wanders inside. Take a seat on one of the many couches, dance
to Russian pop songs or hit the slots upstairs
Martini
The barmen practice their juggling skills with bottles of booze and the friendly waitresses show off the long slits of their elegant black dresses like contestants in a tango competition. Huge black and white photos and shiny neon lights are the backdrop for Riga’s latest cocktail bar and club in Old Riga. Drinks are expertly poured and the international menu is tasty, albeit pricey.
