of Goran Bregovic. The legendary Balcan composer returns to Latvia with
a new musical theatre "Goran Bregovic's Carmen with happy end".
The shows will be held in Dzintari concert hall.
Old story, new music and new interpretation. Gypsies' wedding in classical
script. What could be more interesting? However, the gypsies are always
optimists, therefore instead of tragic end, the end of new "Carmen"
will be happy. The death will be replaced with double-wedding.
Duration: 1h 30 min without interval.

Master classes of the 10th international festival "Saulkrasti Jazz 2007"
July
23-28 in Saulkrasti will be held the master classes of the 10th international
jazz festival "Saulkrasti Jazz 2007".
The master classes are offered by the well known jazz musicians and
give the opportunity to young musicians to share the experience and
learn directly from the masters. The experience is consolidated in everyday
jam sessions and combo ensembles.
This year the master classes will be led by:
Percussions – Eric Moore, USA, Alekxandre Murenko,
Russia, Wolfgang Haffner, Germany (July 26), Lenny White, USA (July
27).
Vocal – Inga Berzina, Latvia; Anna Serapinska,
Poland;
Guitar – Harri Ihanus, Sweden, Jaak Sooaaz, Estonia.
Bass – Tom Kennedy, USA;
Keyboard– Mike del Fero, the Netherlands;
Winds - Christoph Titz, Germany, David Goloshchokin,
Russia.
The participants of the master classes will be the children and young
musicians form 8 - 25 years. No previous knowldege or skills are required,
however the participants should have some experience in music.

July 24 - 29 of 2007 in Riga and Sece will take place the First European song festival, which will be be especially focused to the archaic polyphonic chants - burdon. Burdon chants still can be found in Balcans, Pireneys, Georgia and Latvia.
Participation fee: LVL 1.00 from each participant.
Participating:
30 - 40 choirs
The obligatory repertoire will include songs from Finland, Greece, Italy,
Germany, Austria, Norway and Latvia.

Opera "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi in Cesis
Castle Park
August 18 at 9 PM in Cesis Castle Park the opera "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed.
"Aida"
is one of the opera masterworks by Italian romanticist Giuseppe Verdi.
It tells the tragic love story of Ethiopian princess and Egyptian commander.
More than 130 years "Aida" have been performed on the stages
of world opera theatres. The opera was written to the order of Egyptian
government for the opening of Suez Channel and Opera of Cairo.
The premiere of "Aida" took place December 24 of 1871 in Cairo
and few months later in Milan opera theatre "La Scala" under
the baton of Giuseppe Verdi himself.
The installement of "Aida" of Latvian National Opera (1998)
has become a classic performance with great decorations and costumes
by Ilmars Blumbergs and is beloved both among opera fans and people,
who were not interested in this genre before.
