LITHUANIA

Restaurants Aukstaiciai Restaurant
Nestled on a cobblestone street near Markus and Ko, this tough to find
treasure is well worth the hunt, offering affordable Lithuanian food and
cold beer served in a test tube yard downed through a giant neon straw.
Casual music and comfy seating make it a perfect place to waste away your
afternoon. What
is essentially the mass marketing of village food is a rousing success
with more than just village people. Inside the basement, amongst the fish
pond, hen cage and impressively large-growth tree you can wander through
a maze of dining halls decorated with jars, pitchforks and just about
anything else you might find in a village. Most Lithuanians remain critically
unimpressed with the fare, like most other things they come across. This
writer found that the šaltibaršciai is a bit heavy with too
much sour cream, while the cepelinai tend to be saturated in fat. One of the oldest restaurants in town, and featuring a host of intimate little dining areas, Lokys specialises in game. Looking for some beaver? Here is where you will find it, along with a great variety of game dishes. Lokys literally means bear and knowing this important fact will help you easily locate the restaurant, as there is a bear seated in the entryway. Meander down stairs and enjoy some wild boar or eager beaver… But keep in mind that hunting seasons are regulated so sometimes the most appealing dishes are unavailable. Savas Kampas We
thought this place would never change, but low and behold a recent sprucing
and expansion has added some vitality (and much needed fresh air) to this
previously dim and smoke-filled favourite. Still the bar/restaurant to
come to for no pressure relaxation, traditionally mediocre service and
good times. Hide away in the new back rooms. |
